Emily's Fortune, by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Emily is suddenly orphaned when the carriage that her mother and her mother's wealthy employer, Miss Nash, are riding in overturns. The kindly neighbors bundle Emily off to live with her sweet Aunt Hilda in Redbud, but it is a long trip for a nine year old girl by herself--one day by train and another five by stagecoach. When it turns out that Mrs. Nash left her fortune to Emily, she is pursued by orphan catchers and evil Uncle Victor, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on Emily's money. Read about Emily's adventures and the people who try to help her and harm her along the way. 2010.
